How Carousel USA Built A Stainless-Steel Car Turntable For An Amphibious Car Tour At Disney Springs

Chrys Coulter — Sat, 10 Oct 2026 01:40:20 +0000

At The Boathouse in Disney Springs, Orlando, guests tour the water in restored 1960’s Amphicars that drive down a ramp and float away. Between trips, each car has to turn around at the top of the ramp, and a busy dock has no room for three-point turns. Carousel USA built the answer in Fontana, CA: a custom Model 35LRI car turntable that rotates each car 180° in place.

The Challenge

This Amphibious car turntable lives outdoors on a marine dock and stays wet around the clock. It had to:

Resist brackish water and humidity that quickly rust ordinary steel
Keep its drive and electronics working in a constant washdown
Keep the tours running through a power outage

A Car Turntable Which Is All Stainless, By Design

We built the entire turntable from stainless steel. Its chromium forms a thin oxide layer that re-forms when scratched. Rust flakes off and keeps spreading, but this layer keeps protecting the steel for years. Severe-duty coatings add a second layer of protection.

A Car Turntable Built To Work Without Power

A motor-drive disengage system lets operators turn the platform by hand. An IP69-rated actuator releases the pin-gear drive. A washdown-rated controller with battery backup keeps that release button working when shore power drops. In normal use, the same controller engages the drive, rotates the car 180° and releases it.

Flush With The Dock

The car turntable sits flush at the top of the ramp. Cars drive on, turn and head back to the water. The stainless top panels sit level with the boardwalk, so guests have nothing to trip on.

3 Convincing Arguments for Installing a Parking Turntable

Tina Thomson — Wed, 22 Apr 2020 19:53:52 +0000

If you have a parking situation at your residence where your entry and exit its constrained, then a parking turntable in an excellent solution. There are many several reasons that parking can be problematic within residential situations. If you find that this is the case for you, and you struggle to safely enter or exit your parking space, then a turntable can make a dramatic difference. These are three convincing arguments for having a turntable installed at your residence.

A Parking Turntable Will Increase Your Safety

When you are faced with a tight residential parking space, it can be a challenge to enter your parking spot and it can be a safety issue exiting it. Whether you are entering or exiting, the choice of backing in, or out becomes inevitable. This is problematic whether you are parking or leaving. A turntable can make a dramatic difference by making it possible to drive into and out of your parking space. This is much safer than having to back the vehicle in or out.

You Will Be Able to Make Better Use of the Rest of Your Space

When you use a turntable for your parking space, you will be able to make better use of the rest of the area that is available. Without a turntable, the extra space is often needed for additional maneuvers necessary for parking. A parking turntable can make it possible to use that additional space for other uses.

You Gain Better Vehicle Security

If you deal with a tight parking situation at your home, you might be tempted to simply park on the street. This puts your vehicle in a security risk situation that can be eliminated by using a turntable.

These three benefits show the value that a parking turntable can represent.

Innovative Ways to Use Automotive Turntables in Different Types of Situations

John Thomson — Wed, 11 Sep 2019 07:05:29 +0000

If you’re someone who collects cars, you’ve probably thought about ways that you can show them off better. While you can simply put them all in a large garage, it might be difficult getting them out every time you’re looking to drive one, plus it doesn’t look that good from an aesthetic standpoint. A solution to solve this could be getting an automotive turntable in your garage. You should consider installing car turntables for these reasons.

Residential Automotive Turntables

When you’re storing multiple cars at your home, chances are it’s going to be crowded. By adding a turntable at your residence, you’ll be able to place your car in spaces that are usually too narrow or wouldn’t be easy to get your car out. Additionally, it’s a good conversation piece as you can place your cars in positions that look more appealing. Think about getting a turntable for your residence if you have multiple cars.

Motion Control Turntables

For those that have a large collection of Automobiles, they might be interested in taking photos of them. It can be difficult getting the right car photos though as you’ll have to constantly move your Vehicle to get the right angle you’re looking for.

By using motion control turntables instead, you can simply use a device that lets you rotate your car as much as you want without having to get up and move it. This means that not only will it save you time, but you’ll be able to see your car from

the outside rather than guessing if it’s in the perfect spot. Consider getting a motion control turntable if you’re interested in photography.

Other Automotive Turntables and Conclusion

These turntable options can be great for all different types of situations, but you might be interested in more choices depending on what you’re going to use them for. Look into commercial and surface mount turntables if you’re running another type of operation involving cars. No matter what kind of parking turntable you get though, you’ll be happy with your purchase.
