Most luxury homes are defined by what you can see. This one was defined by what was underneath it.

A private residence in Winter Park, Florida had a challenge that no standard product could solve: a large underground garage that could only be reached from the outside — through a pit, in the open Florida air, with rain to manage, two vehicles to move, and an aggressive construction timeline running in the background.

The homeowner didn’t just need a car lift. They needed a custom-engineered system built to handle 12,000 pounds, support a second vehicle on a canopy platform during operation, and keep the underground garage bone dry through Florida’s summer storms.

That’s exactly what Carousel-USA delivered.

The Challenge: Three Problems, One Machine

Custom projects rarely come with a single complication. This one arrived with three, all happening at once.

1.  12,000 LB of Load — With a Second Vehicle on Top

The homeowner needed to move full-size vehicles from grade level to a large underground garage below. That alone requires serious hydraulic engineering. But the system also had to support a second vehicle resting on the upper canopy platform while the lift was in operation — adding load complexity and requiring precise structural modeling to ensure safe, balanced travel under uneven conditions.

2.  Outdoor Installation in a High-Rainfall Climate

Florida averages over 54 inches of rain per year. Installing a vehicle lift in an outdoor pit — with an underground garage directly below — meant that water intrusion wasn’t a possibility. It was a guarantee, without the right engineering.

No off-the-shelf drainage solution existed for this situation. A custom approach was needed from the ground up.

3.  A One-Year Window Inside a Multi-Year Build

The residence was part of a larger, multi-year construction project — but the lift had to be fabricated, delivered, and installed within a compressed one-year schedule that aligned with the builder’s broader timeline. That left no room for delays, rework, or supply chain surprises.

The Solution: Engineered From the Ground Up

Carousel-USA designed and built a fully customized 4PL157 car lift system — engineered specifically to meet every demand of this site.

Structural & Hydraulic Performance

Our engineers used computer load modeling to properly size the structural framework and ensure stability under the full range of expected load conditions — including unbalanced scenarios with vehicles on both the platform and canopy. The result is a system that travels at 96 inches per minute with smooth, consistent motion from start to finish.

The hydraulic power unit runs at 7.5 HP. A chain leveling system maintains platform alignment under uneven loads. Safety velocity fuses provide controlled operation at all times. Main and auxiliary push-button control stations give the homeowner full, simple control.

A Custom Drainage System — Designed and Built In-House

This is where the project went from a standard lift install to something genuinely custom. To protect the underground garage from Florida rainfall, Carousel engineers designed a complete perimeter water management system:

  • A custom-fabricated steel trough surrounding the full perimeter of the lift pit
  • A precision sheet metal top panel integrated directly into the lift platform surface
  • Controlled diversion of all water into a designated drainage system below

This solution significantly reduces water entering the pit under all weather conditions — not just light rain, but sustained Florida downpours — and protects the garage from flooding over the long term.

On-Time Delivery — No Excuses

Hitting the builder’s deadline required more than just working faster. Our team streamlined fabrication processes, leveraged prior installation experience to eliminate rework, and maintained close coordination with the construction crew throughout the schedule. The lift arrived and was installed on time — not close to on time, but on time.

The Result: A Lift That Does Everything It Was Asked To

The 4PL157 at 581 Sylvan Drive operates exactly as engineered. The underground garage stays dry. The canopy platform holds a second vehicle without issue. The lift travels smoothly at full speed. And it all arrived and was installed on the builder’s schedule without compromise.

More broadly, this project is an example of what Carousel-USA does when a client brings us a problem that doesn’t have a catalog answer — we engineer the answer ourselves.

Why Carousel-USA for Custom Residential Lift Systems?

Not every lift project fits a standard spec sheet. Outdoor installations, unusual load requirements, site-specific environmental challenges, and compressed timelines require an engineering team that can design from first principles — not just select from a parts catalog.

Carousel-USA designs and builds all equipment in-house at our 24,000 sq-ft facility in Fontana, California. Our mechanical and electrical engineers work directly on every custom project, from computer load modeling through fabrication and installation.

  • Custom residential and commercial lift systems
  • Engineered drainage and environmental protection systems
  • Computer load modeling for structural sizing
  • Hydraulic power systems with commercial-grade components
  • On-time delivery and installation coordination
  • Designed and manufactured in the USA
