Rotating Connections

The use of slip joints and rotating unions means constant flow of liquid or electricity on the continuously rotating table, with the concern of hoses getting “wound up”!

There are generally two types of Rotating Connections:

  1. Slip Rings
  2. Rotating Unions

Slip rings are an electromechanical device that allows the transmission of power and electrical signals from a stationary to a rotating structure. A slip ring can be used in any electromechanical system that requires rotation while transmitting power or signals. Typical electrical signals transmitted are electricity, low and high power signals, CAT6 ethernet, and Radio frequency (RF) signals.

Rotating unions, also called rotary unions or rotary joints, transfer fluid from a stationary supply into rotating machinery, such as a spinning drum heated by oil or chilled by water. Different types are used to match each set of requirements. Typically used for water, chemicals, exhaust gases, and compressed air.
